Fun ideas for little ones

I just found the COOLEST blog called Make & Takes.

I've been feeling a little stagnant as a mom lately... not really doing a whole lot of new or fun things with the kids. I did do something with the kids recently that another friend had suggested previously- filled up a tub with cool water, play dishes, and a couple of washcloths, and let the kids "wash" dishes outside.

It was a fun way to cool off and it kept them occupied for about 30 minutes (looooong in the life of a preschooler!).

Other than that little activity, I've been in sort of a rut with the kids. I don't ever feel the pressure to keep my kids constantly entertained or on a strict schedule, but I also feel like a few structured activities during the week can't hurt their imaginations expanding to new territories.

Plus, it gives me a few minutes of peace. ;)

Anyways, check out the Make & Takes blog. Lots of really cool ideas on there. I originally found it through this post at Sycamore Stirrings, which is talking about doing Muffin Tin Meals for kids (check it out- something I'm going to start doing more to get out of the chicken nugget/corn dog rut with my kids).

Let me know what sort of fun, simple, creative activities you do with your preschoolers & toddlers. I can use all the help I can get!

  1. I let my children take turns tying empty cans to their legs and then the other child gets to chase them around and see how many times they can make them fall.
If you think about it...they learn to tie...they learn to run in zig zag formation...and they learn stragedy. Its really a win win!

  2. What a cute website, Virginia! Thanks for sharing!

One of my kids favorite activities is to use sidewalk chalk. After all the fun, they take paint brushes (I just buy a bunch of cheap-y ones from the hardware section at the hardware store) and they "erase" their drawings with water. They also really love to "paint" water on the brick, sidewalk, playhouse, whatever. It keeps them occupied FOREVAH! (Mommy loves that! LOL!)

I found those two websites recently and love them!

  4. I love the idea for "leg cans"! Also the paint brush eraser is a great one too. I'll have to do that today as we're outside!

Thanks for the great post and for linking to me!
