Halloween Costume Photos

I did a "photoshoot" (read here as: grab each kid and get as many photos of them as possible before they get bored, which means about 5 minutes worth of photos) with the kids this afternoon in their costumes.

An aside about costumes: we are all about the making up of our own costumes and creating them from stuff we have or can find. I grew up making our own costumes; some of my favorites were ones that we wouldn't easily find at the store, like Pippi Longstockings and Huck Finn.

Yes, I was Huck Finn one year.

It was my tomboy stage. heheh

Anyways, I'd love to hear how you get creative with your costume pieces. We scoured thrift stores and the Dollar Store and the craft dept. at Walmart to put together our costumes, and I love it because they will last more than one night and the kids can continue to play pretend with them. What sort of fun costumes have you made?

Here's a little peek at some of the photos from today. I won't bore you with all of them, as cute as they are. :)

Strawberry Shortcake Ballerina (this was something she totally made up
and guided the costume choices).

Woody from "Toy Story"

(He told me as soon as he saw the boots that we had to write "Andy" on the bottom of them, just like Woody has in the movie. I love his attention to detail.)Sassy Skeleton

And of course- our Short Skeleton

  3. Adorable!! My kids were all about the store bought costumes this year so I gave in :( But I like to make up stuff, too. Last year I used clothes from home for Ben's Indiana Jones costume. Olivia was a rock star...pink shirt + glitter paint.
