I enjoy doing crafts with my kids. I'm one of those crazy people.
Is it chaotic? Oftentimes. Messy? Of course. Is it good for them? Oh yes.
This is not a post to make you feel guilty for what you are or are not doing with your kids. There's lots I don't do with my kids. But this is the one area that I do focus on, and maybe some of my ideas would give you an idea or two to try out with your kiddos.
This first one was actually not my idea, but my friend Kim's. She loves to cook and whipped up a batch of sugar cookies & royal icing for the kids after school one day. Then we used food gel (just a teensy bit on a plate) and treated them like water colors and painted them onto the cookies. SO fun!
I teach a MDO class for 2 & 3 year olds, and it's hard sometimes to find crafts that are cute and not going to just end up in the trash. It's also important to me that the kids do the craft and not me, as much as I want it to come out looking cute!
I found some wooden doorhangers and had the kids paint them with dark blue acrylic paint. Once it dried (a few minutes later), we brushed glitter glue over it. Then the kids glued on some simple stables I had cut out for them and the glitter star. I topped it off with ribbon because everything looks cuter with ribbon! I loved how these turned out!
Finally, we made these little snowman magnets out of electric tealights. You can check out my directions for them here!
What sort of Christmas craftiness have you been up to?
